SOMA Pilipinas Is Hiring: Community Organizer

The SOMA Pilipinas community organizer shall help engage the SOMA Pilipinas member organizations to be more involved with issues impacting the neighborhood including  educational economic and housing matters.  They will actively outreach to, educate, and engage Filipino groups,  residents and workers and our neighbors and allies on important issues impacting our community.

The community organizer will work up to 25 hours per week. They will work closely with the Director and lead in mobilizing the SOMA Pilipinas coalition and residents for important cultural celebrations, neighborhood activities, and community development initiatives.  They will staff the Workforce Committee and Neighborhood Services & Action Committee.  They will also attend and represent SOMA Pilipinas at community meetings, events, etc. 

Desired qualifications and experience:

o   Experience and familiarity with the Filipino and SOMA community and demonstrated commitment to community service and empowerment

o   Experience in conducting education, grassroots organizing and mobilizations

o   Strong initiative, works independently, and also in team and community settings

o   Strong written and verbal communication skills

o   Excellent people skills, reliable and accountable

o   Filipino language comprehension and cultural competence a plus

Hours and pay rate negotiable based on availability and experience.
