However, with skyrocketing real estate costs, artists and arts groups are being forced out of the City in growing numbers. In turn, homelessness is on the rise -- and thousands of children and their families are without a home. Join SOMA Pilipinas in supporting a proposed ballot measure that addresses both of these urgent needs via funds from the City's hotel tax.

On Wednesday, May 16 2018, CAAMFEST, SOMA Pilipinas, and Kularts SF present the debut screening of Alleluia Panis’ dance film She, Who Can See, based on her live dance theatre performance of the same title. Presented alongside She, Who Can See are the stunning community documents Borja Family Movies and Rico, SOMA Pinoy. This special evening of vibrant short films presents audiences the opportunity to gain a wide yet intimate understanding of the history, stories, and people that comprise Filipino life in San Francisco and the South of Market — a place rich in tradition and narratives that has recently been recognized by the State of California as the SOMA Pilipinas Filipino Cultural Heritage District.

Completed in May and debuting on June 8, 2018 at 6 PM, the bright and beautiful FMHI-sponsored mural at 595 Bryant adorns the rooftop of Mestiza, the Filipino-inspired taqueria that’s also a proud member of the SOMA Pilipinas Filipino Cultural Heritage District.
KULARTS-SF Convenes Third Annual DIALOGUE IN THE DIASPORA Featuring Trans and Gender Non-Conforming Artists
On the third weekend of June, from the 15th through the 17th, KULARTS SF will host its 3rd annual edition of “Dialogue in the Diaspora,” a three-day convening of diasporic Filipino artists and culture bearers to discuss and engage the ongoing development of Philippine arts across the globe. Still the only event of its kind, the gathering centers on the thought and output of Filipino art makers and arts organizations who originate from outside of The Philippines — a crucial space for exploring the cultural development of the various communities that make up the Filipino diaspora.
Senior Art Moments at SOMA Pilipinas
Monday morning at Bindlestiff Studio on 6th Street, seniors from across the SOMA Pilipinas Cultural District performed in the ReTas theatre project -- Restorative Theatre Arts for Seniors -- organized by FCDC, PSRC, and Bindlestiff Studio. The morning featured songs, dance, and unforgettable storytelling that helped draw the community closer to one another through the artistic and creative power of our elders.
