What should SOMA Pilipinas look like?
Please join us in developing a design vocabulary that will be the hallmark for the Filipino Cultural Heritage District. How our rich heritage be communicated and re- interpreted in this contemporary context?
Will it be a reflection of Old Manila during the heyday of the Spanish? Will we re-interpret the rich heritage of our pre-Hispanic past and have all of our street signs in English and Baybayin? Or will SOMA Pilipinas do away with the past and recreate a new design vocabulary that is the hallmark of a new Pinoy 2.0 generation and at the same time welcoming of 1st generation immigrants new and old?

Calling all artists, designers, activists, neighborhood folks, & architects.
Let's gather to explore these questions and collaborate in a community Design Charrette.
A charrette is an intensive planning session where residents, designers, and others collaborate on a vision for cultural identifiers of the Filipino Cultural District as SOMA continues to build upwards. It provides a forum for ideas and offers the unique advantage of giving immediate feedback to the designers. More importantly, it allows everyone who participates to be a mutual author of what SOMA Pilipinas should look like.
